Sunset across the lake

This picture was taken to capture both the beauty of the sunset across the lake and to create a memory, which is why I included a person in the photo.  The photo works because the subject and the viewer are both looking at the same thing in the distance, which leads the viewer’s eye through the image. The picture would not work as well if the subject was facing the camera because then the subject would become the main focal point.  In this image, both the subject and the sunset across the lake are dominant. The blue sky across the top and the dark lake in the foreground draw the eye toward the sunset in the center.

The purpose or intent of this photo is obviously for a wedding, but it goes beyond the basic posed wedding picture. The importance and happiness of this special occasion is captured in a single powerful image through the couple’s facial expressions and body language. The picture was taken at the decisive moment. The rose petals portray movement and the surrounding guests and make the image unique as does the somewhat upward angle at which the shot was taken. The angle of view also makes the viewer feel as if they were present. The rose petals also add focus to the couple by framing them. The bright natural light in this photo also compliments the cheerful mood of the event.
